A History of Myself I'm born in Singapore (obviously) and lives in HDB (Housing-Development-Board set up by the government during Singapore's developing days) flats just like most Singaporean does.
My Computer History It all started when I joined the school's computer club (when I'm in Fuchun), unlike most people, I begin with Macintosh (Apple) computers then slowly move to IBM compatibles. First impression, definitely not very good, after pages of weird words, I found myself staring at the DOS prompt, which make me wonder if I have done anything wrong ! (Strange enough, after so many years, people who spoilt their Win95 still find themselves staring at the "prompt" ! I started learning IBM compatibles when my school replaced the Apple Classic II during my final year. After the GCE "O" level, I bought my first computer, a Pentium 100 with 8Mb ram and 850Mb hdd, of which at that time was considered more than enough. I got on-line about 2 years ago (1996) and started chasing after high tech computer happenings (mainly hardware) ever since. I set up a home network (10 BaseT) shortly after I assembled my second PC on March 98. Intel CPU's not my choice this time, as it provides terrible performance to price ratio, my new system is base on AMD's K6-233, it has 128Mb of ram, Creative AWE64 sound card, S3 Virge DX, Infra 3600 CD-ROM, a total of 10Gb disk space and ASUS TX97-XE mainboard. I am now looking into broad band networking, which my government is trying to get everyone involved ! So far the Singapore ONE (One-Network-for-Everyone) they set up is almost done (in trial now). I have the cable socket right beside my PC, but didn't have the luck to be a beta user (my friends are downloading at 10Mbps). Just hope that the pricing would be reasonable after the commercial launch :) Likes
